Since the IHS I2C driver want upstream, the surrounding infrastructure
has changed quite a bit (notably, the fpgamap driver was replaced with a
regmap driver).
Update the driver to work with these changes.

These options only apply when not using DM_I2C. When using device
trees, the dt will enable and control the speeds of the I2C
controller(s) and these configuration options have no effect.
So disable them in DM_I2C mode. Otherwise they show up as decoys, and
make it look like one is enabling I2C controllers and setting the speed
when really it's doing nothing.
However, a system using a SPL build will not use DM_I2C in the SPL, even
if DM_I2C is enabled for the main u-boot. And so the SPL might use the
kconfig based I2C speed controls while the main u-boot does not.

This is an old driver that supports both device mapped and non-mapped
mode, and covers a wide range of hardware. It's hard to change without
risking breaking something. I have to tried to be exceedingly detailed
in this patch, so please excuse the length of the commit essay that
follows.
In device mapped mode the I2C xfer function does not handle plain read,
and some other, transfers correctly.
What it can't handle are transactions that:
Start with a read, or,
Have a write followed by a read, or,
Have more than one read in a row.
The common I2C/SMBUS read register and write register transactions
always start with a write, followed by a write or a read, and then end.
These work, so the bug is not apparent for most I2C slaves that only use
these common xfer forms.
The existing xfer loop initializes by sending the chip address in write
mode after it deals with bus arbitration and master setup. When
processing each message, if the next message will be a read, it sends a
repeated start followed by the chip address in read mode after the
current message.
Obviously, this does not work if the first message is a read, as the
chip is always addressed in write mode initially by i2c_init_transfer().
A write following a read does not work because the repeated start is
only sent when the next message is a read. There is no logic to send it
when the current message is a read and next is write. It should be sent
every time the bus changes direction.
The ability to use a plain read was added to this driver in
commit 2feec4eafd ("imx: mxc_i2c: tweak the i2c transfer method"),
but this applied only the non-DM code path.
This patch fixes the DM code path. The xfer function will call
i2c_init_transfer() with an alen of -1 to avoid sending the chip
address. The same way the non-DM code achieves this. The xfer
function's message loop will send the address and mode before each
message if the bus changes direction, and on the first message.
When reading data, the master hardware is one byte ahead of what we
receive. I.e., reading a byte from the data register returns a byte
*already received* by the master, and causes the master to start the RX
of the *next* byte. Therefor, before we read the final byte of a
message, we must tell the master what to do next. I add a "last" flag
to i2c_read_data() to tell it if the message is to be followed by a stop
or a repeated start. When last == true it acts exactly as before.
The non-DM code can only create an xfer where the read, if any, is the
final message of the xfer. And so the only callsite of i2c_read_data()
in the non-DM code has the "last" parameter as true. Therefore, this
change has no effect on the non-DM code. As all other changes are in
the DM xfer function, which is not even compiled in non-DM code, I am
confident that this patch has no effect on boards not using I2C_DM.
This greatly reduces the range of hardware that could be affected.
For DM boards, I have verified every transaction the "i2c" command can
create on a scope and they are all exactly as they are supposed to be.
I also tested write->read->write, which isn't possible with the i2c
command, and it works as well. I didn't fix multiple reads in a row, as
it's a lot more invasive and obviously no one has every wanted them
since they've never worked. It didn't seem like the extra complexity
was justified to support something no one uses.

It is not very clear how these work in relation to the exact I2C xfers
they produce. In paticular, the address length is somewhat overloaded
in the read method. Clearly document the existing behavior. Maybe this
will help the next person who needs to work on this driver and not break
non-DM boards.

The twsi_wait function reads the control register for interrupt flag,
and if interrupt flag is present, it immediately reads status register.
On our device this sometimes causes bad value being read from status
register, as if the value was not yet updated.
My theory is that the controller does approximately this:
1. sets interrupt flag in control register,
2. sets the value of status register,
3. causes an interrupt
In U-Boot we do not use interrupts, so I think that it is possible that
sometimes the status register in the twsi_wait function is read between
points 1 and 2.
The bug does not appear if I add a small delay before reading status
register.
Wait 100ns (which in U-Boot currently means 1 us, because ndelay(i)
function calls udelay(DIV_ROUND_UP(i, 1000))) before reading the status
register.

Using this driver on socfpga gen5 with DM_I2C enabled leads to a data abort
as the 'i2c' reset property cannot be found (the gen5 dtsi does not provide
reset-names).
The actual bug was to check 'if (&priv->reset_ctl)', which is never false.
While at it, convert the driver to use 'reset_get_bulk' instead of looking
at a specific named reset and also make it release the reset on driver
remove before starting the OS.

The 'u-boot,i2c-transaction-bytes' device tree property provides
information regarding number of bytes transferred by a device in a
single transaction.
This change is necessary to avoid hanging devices after soft reset.
One notable example is communication with MC34708 device:
1. Reset when communicating with MC34708 via I2C.
2. The u-boot (after reboot -f) tries to setup the I2C and then calls
force_idle_bus. In the same time MC34708 still has some data to be sent
(as it transfers data in 24 bits chunks).
3. The force_idle_bus() is not able to make the bus idle as 8 SCL
clocks may be not enough to have the full transmission.
4. We end up with I2C inconsistency with MC34708.
This PMIC device requires 24+ SCL cycles to make finish any pending I2C
transmission.

This patch fixes below warnings found with checker tool.
The variable len in i2c_msg struct is of unsigned type
and it is received as recv_count which is unsigned type
but it is checked with < 0 which is always false, hence
removed it.
The local variable curr_recv_count is declared as signed
type and compared aginst unsigned recv_count which is

The arbitration lost interrupt was not getting cleared
while clearing interrupts. This patch fixes this by adding
arbitration lost interrupt as well during clear. This patch
also removes hardcoded value and defined a macro for it.

At present this driver does not check whether it is able to actually
communicate with the I2C controller. It prints a timeout message but still
considers the probe to be successful.
To fix this, add some checking that the init succeeds.

is hard to identify which bus is where.
Linux is adding topology information to i2c-mux busses to identify them
better.

For i2c controllers which are missing alias in DT there is no req_seq
setup. This function is setting up proper ID based on highest found
alias ID.
On zcu102 this is the behavior when patch is applied.

There is a need to find out the first free i2c ID which can be used for
i2s buses (including i2c buses connected to i2c mux). Do it early in
init and share this variable with other i2c classes for uniq bus
identification.

Add Xilinx AXI I2C controller driver based on the Linux i2c-xiic driver.
This driver is stripped of all the IRQ handling and uses pure polling,
yet tries to retain most of the structure of the Linux driver to make
backporting of fixes easy.
Note that the IP has a known limitation on 255 bytes read and write,
according to xilinx this is still being worked on [1].

Commit f32a8007ef ("dm: i2c: Make i2c_get_chip_for_busnum() fail if the
chip is not detected") introduced a regression for the NVIDIA Jetson TX2.
For some reason the xfer callback of the tegra i2c driver doesn't support
probing the I2C devices with a 0-length message.
Fixing the regression by providing a dummy implementation of probe_chip()
that does nothing.

Sandbox i2c works using emulation drivers which are currently children of
the i2c device:

In this case the emulation device is attached to i2c bus on address 0x43
and provides the Real-Time-Clock (RTC) functionality.
However this is not ideal, since every device on an I2C bus has a child
device. This is only really the case for sandbox, but we want to avoid
special-case code for sandbox.
A better approach seems to be to add a separate node on the bus, an
'emulation parent'. This can be given a bogus address (such as 0xff) and
hides all the emulators away. Then we can use a phandle to point from the
device to the correct emualtor, and only on sandbox. The code to find an
emulator does not interfere with normal i2c operation.
Add a new UCLASS_I2C_EMUL_PARENT uclass which allows finding an emulator
given a bus, and finding a bus given an emulator. This will be used in a
follow-on patch.

When a driver declares DM_FLAG_PRE_RELOC flag, it wishes to be
bound before relocation. However due to a bug in the DM core,
the flag only takes effect when devices are statically declared
via U_BOOT_DEVICE(). This bug has been fixed recently by commit
"dm: core: Respect drivers with the DM_FLAG_PRE_RELOC flag in
lists_bind_fdt()", but with the fix, it has a side effect that
all existing drivers that declared DM_FLAG_PRE_RELOC flag will
be bound before relocation now. This may expose potential boot
failure on some boards due to insufficient memory during the
pre-relocation stage.
To mitigate this potential impact, the following changes are
implemented:
- Remove DM_FLAG_PRE_RELOC flag in the driver, if the driver
only supports configuration from device tree (OF_CONTROL)
- Keep DM_FLAG_PRE_RELOC flag in the driver only if the device
is statically declared via U_BOOT_DEVICE()
- Surround DM_FLAG_PRE_RELOC flag with OF_CONTROL check, for
drivers that support both statically declared devices and
configuration from device tree

rk3066 and rk3188 has two I2C controller implementations.
Current I2C driver wan't work with legacy implementation.
Switching between controllers is performed using a bit inside
GFR_SOC_CON1 register. The bit setting is performed by pinctrl
driver. The patch ask pinctrl to do settings.

When doing "i2c dev 4; i2c probe" with ENET daughter card connected
on iMX8QXP MEK board, we met a i2c bus busy issue, that the BBF of
lpi2c always show busy, but the master is idle, and stop is detected
(SDF set).
This patch addes a handling to re-init the lpi2c master for this
case. Then the issue can be worked around.

In xfer function, both bus_i2c_read and bus_i2c_write will
send a STOP command. This causes a problem when reading register
data from i2c device.
Generally two operations comprise the register data reading:
1. Write the register address to i2c device.
START | chip_addr | W | ACK | register_addr | ACK |
2. Read the Data from i2c device.
START | chip_addr | R | ACK | DATA | NACK | STOP
The STOP command should happen at the end of the transfer, otherwise
we will always get data from register address 0

For LPI2C IP, NACK is detected by the rising edge of the ninth clock.
In current uboot driver, once NACK is detected, it will reset and then
disable LPI2C master. As a result, we can never see the falling edge
of the ninth clock.

Equivalent code that disables the hidden i2c0 slave already exists in
the Turris Omnia platform specific code. But this hidden i2c0 slave that
interferes the i2c bus is not board specific. Armada 38x SoCs and at
least some Kirkwood variants are affected as well. Add code to disable
this slave to the i2c bus driver to make it work on all affected
hardware.
Use the bind callback because we want this to always run at boot,
regardless of whether U-Boot uses the i2c bus.

When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and
there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the
area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it
with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the
Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first
line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line)
and with slightly different comment styles than us.
In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility
and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style.
This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared
license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag
contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag
and have introduced one.

Add code to look for a reset manager property. Specifically, look for the
reset-names of 'i2c'. A reset property is an optional feature, so only print
out a warning and do not fail if a reset property is not present.
If a reset property is discovered, then use it to deassert, thus bringing the
IP out of reset.

The commit implement a gpio-based software deblocking. The code
extract I2C pins description from device tree, switch pins to GPIO
mode, toggle SCL until slave release SDA, send I2C stop and switch
I2C pins back to I2C mode.

Kmalloc is using memalign allocation function. It is not necessary to

Previous patch for this driver breaks i2c initialization.
commit 8bcf12ccce ("i2c: mvtwsi.c: Avoid NULL dereference")
If actual_speed is passed as NULL in this function:
static void __twsi_i2c_init(struct mvtwsi_registers *twsi, int speed,
int slaveadd, uint *actual_speed)
than __twsi_i2c_set_bus_speed never get called. This causes i2c clock
to run on default speed - 2MHz (measured with oscilloscope). This is issue
on some boards, sunxi for example, since on I2C0 bus PMU is connected.

The .probe_chip function is supposed to probe an i2c device on the bus to
determine whether a device is answering to a particular address.
at91_i2c_probe_chip() did not do anything resembling this and always
returned 0.
It looks as though at91_i2c_probe_chip() was intended to be a .probe
function for the controller, as it was copied-and-pasted to become
at91_i2c_probe() in 0bc8f640a4.
Removing the at91_i2c_probe_chip() function makes the higher layer
(i2c_probe_chip()) try a zero-length read transfer to test for the
presence of a device instead, which does work.

The driver must wait for TXRDY after each byte is pushed into
the i2c FIFO before pushing the next byte. Previously this was
not done for the first byte, causing a race condition with zeros
sometimes being sent for the next byte (which is typically the
first actual data byte).

Commit 8e6eda7cda ("drivers/i2c/muxes/pca954x: Add pca9547 I2C mux
support") introduced a chip_desc for the pca954x devices but failed to
update pca954x_ofdata_to_platdata() to be aware of it. Make
pca954x_ofdata_to_platdata() lookup the chip_desc to validate the device
width.

In U-Boot -ENODEV means that there is no device. When there is a problem
with the device, drivers should return an error like -ENXIO or -EREMOTEIO.
When the device tree properties cannot be read correct , they should
return -EINVAL.
Update various GPIO drivers to follow this rule, to help with consistency
for future driver writers.

U-Boot widely uses error() as a bit noisier variant of printf().
This macro causes name conflict with the following line in
include/linux/compiler-gcc.h:
# define __compiletime_error(message) __attribute__((error(message)))
This prevents us from using __compiletime_error(), and makes it
difficult to fully sync BUILD_BUG macros with Linux. (Notice
Linux's BUILD_BUG_ON_MSG is implemented by using compiletime_assert().)
Let's convert error() into now treewide-available pr_err().
Done with the help of Coccinelle, excluing tools/ directory.

Add an i2c mux driver providing access to i2c bus segments using a
hardware MUX sitting on a master bus and controlled through gpio pins.
E.G. something like:

The driver is for all boards 24XX and up, so let's eliminate the
extra option called CONFIG_SYS_I2C_OMAP34XX since the driver checks
for CONFIG_OMAP34XX we don't need CONFIG_SYS_I2C_OMAP34XX.

AVR32 is gone. It's already more than two years for no support in Buildroot,
even longer there is no support in GCC (last version is heavily patched 4.2.4).
Linux kernel v4.12 got rid of it (and v4.11 didn't build successfully).
There is no good point to keep this support in U-Boot either.

These support the flat device tree. We want to use the dev_read_..()
prefix for functions that support both flat tree and live tree. So rename
the existing functions to avoid confusion.
In the end we will have:
1. dev_read_addr...() - works on devices, supports flat/live tree
2. devfdt_get_addr...() - current functions, flat tree only
3. of_get_address() etc. - new functions, live tree only
All drivers will be written to use 1. That function will in turn call
either 2 or 3 depending on whether the flat or live tree is in use.
Note this involves changing some dead code - the imx_lpi2c.c file.

New i2c_read, i2c_write and i2c_probe functions, tested on OMAP4
(4430/60/70), OMAP5 (5430) and AM335X (3359) were added in 960187ffa125(
"ARM: OMAP: I2C: New read, write and probe functions") but not tested
on OMAP3. This patch will allow the updated drivers using device tree and
DM_I2C to operate on OMAP3.

The i2c driver will be converted to support device model. In preparation
for that change split the various functions into two parts. This will
allow device model specific driver to reuse the majority of the code from
the non device model implementation.
Also rename the probe function to probe_chip to better reflect its
purpose.

This commit adds support for DM I2C on sunxi platform. It can coexist
with old style sunxi I2C driver, because it is still used in SPL and
by some SoCs.
Because sunxi platform doesn't yet support DM clk, reset and pinctrl
driver, workaround is needed to enable clocks and set resets and
pinctrls. This is done by calling i2c_init_board() in board_init().
This means that CONFIG_I2Cx_ENABLE options needs to be correctly set
in order to use needed I2C controller.

This patch allows using i2c commands (e.g. "i2c probe", "i2c md", etc)
without the need to first select the bus number with e.g. "i2c dev 0".
This is the "i2c" command behavior similar to the one from pre DM, where
by default bus 0 was immediately accessible.

This patch updates the way in which psc, sscl and ssch I2C parameters are
calculated to be in sync with v4.9 Linux kernel

The previous method was causing several issues:
- The internal I2C frequency (after prescaler) was far above recommended
one (7 - 12 MHz [*]) - the current approach brings better noise suppression
(as stated in Linux commit: SHA1: 84bf2c868f3ca996e5bb)
- The values calculated (psc, sscl and ssch) were far from optimal, which
caused on the test platform (AM57xx) the I2C0 SCL signal low time (Fast
Mode) of ~1.0us (the standard requires > 1.3 us).

Normally, this would probably be done by adding devicetree aliases
to the main dtsi file for the lpc32xx and using bus->req_seq instead.
Since we want to have consistent i2c numbering, we cannot force the
bus->req_seq because. If for instance we have 3 buses numbered
from 0 to 2 with i2c0 enabled, i2c1 disabled and i2c2 enabled;
i2c2 can be selected using 'i2c dev 1' and 'i2c dev 2' commands
because a bus can be probed using req_seq or seq interchangeably.

With gcc-6.x we see:

At present devices use a simple integer offset to record the device tree
node associated with the device. In preparation for supporting a live
device tree, which uses a node pointer instead, refactor existing code to
access this field through an inline function.

Revision 1.0 of this IP has a quirk where if during a long read transfer
the transfer_size register will go to 0, the master will send a NACK to
the slave prematurely.
The way to work around this is to reprogram the transfer_size register
mid-transfer when the only the receive fifo is known full, i.e. the I2C
bus is known non-active.
The workaround is based on the implementation in the linux-kernel.

Revision 1.0 of this IP has a couple of issues, such as not supporting
repeated start conditions for read transfers.
So scan through the list of i2c messages for these conditions
and report an error if they are attempted.
This has been fixed for revision 1.4 of the IP, so only report the error
when the IP can really not do it.

For mux check if the parent is already a device of UCLASS_I2C and if yes
just use that. Otherwise see if someone specified an i2c-parent phandle.
This mimics the behavior found in the Kernel, as it removes the
requirement to explicitly specify a i2c-parent phandle.

0c0f719ad2 accidentally changed the
endianness of the i2c read and write addresses. This was noticable when
accessing EEPROMs that use 2 byte addressing as the LSB was being sent
first.

gpio pinctrl so replace the dev_info to debug so the
print never comes on the console and for bus that uses
gpio pinctrl anyway have dev_err.
