Support for multiplanar and singleplanar formats is mutually exclusive,
at least in practice. In our attempt to unify support for support for
mplane and !mplane in v4l, let's get rid of the
->vidioc_enum_fmt_{vid,out}_cap_mplane() hooks and call
->vidioc_enum_fmt_{vid,out}_cap() instead.

As we did a major change on this file, let's take the moment

This patch was partially done with the help of two tools:

In vb2_vmalloc_get_userptr() the framevector is created with the
'write' argument set to false when vb2_create_framevec() is called
for OUTPUT buffers. So the pages are marked as read-only.
However, userspace will write to these buffers since it will fill
in the data to output. Since get_userptr is only called if the userptr
of the queued buffer has changed since the last time that same buffer
was queued, this will fail when the buffer contents is updated and the
buffer is queued again.
E.g., userspace fills buffer 1 with the output video and queues it.
The first time get_userptr is called and the pages are grabbed and
pinned in memory and marked read-only. The second time buffer 1 is
filled with different video data and queued again. Since the userptr
hasn't changed the get_userptr() callback isn't called again. Since
the pages were marked as read-only the new contents isn't updated.
Just always call vb2_create_framevec() with FOLL_WRITE to always
allow writing to the buffers.
Using USERPTR streaming with OUTPUT devices is almost never done. And
when it is done it is via v4l2-compliance and a driver like vim2m. But
since v4l2-compliance doesn't actually inspect the capture buffer and
compare it to the original output buffer, this issue was never noticed.
But the vicodec driver actually needs to parse the bitstream in the
OUTPUT buffers and any errors there will be immediately noticed. So
this time v4l2-compliance failed the USERPTR streaming test.

Stateless video codecs will require both the H264 metadata and slices in
order to be able to decode frames.
This introduces the definitions for the structures used to pass the
metadata from the userspace to the kernel.

This commit adds pin to pad mapping and output format configuration support
in CX2584x-series chips to cx25840 driver.
This functionality is then used to allow disabling ivtv-specific hacks and
configuration values (called a "generic mode"), so cx25840 driver can be
used for other devices not needing them without risking compatibility
problems.

cx25840_load_fw() does the same thing as cx25840_reset(), only keeps
"is_initialized" flag so any further invocation of this function besides
the first one is a NOP.
Let's just call cx25840_reset() directly from cx25840_load_fw() instead of
open coding it there.
While we are at it, let's also improve comments about cx25840_load_fw()
so they are current and in the proper style (one of them even referred to a
non-existing cx25840 init operation).

Add helper function to parse the DT for the hdmi-phandle property
and return the corresponding struct device pointer.
It takes care to avoid increasing the device refcount since all
we need is the device pointer. This pointer is used in the
notifier list as a key, but it is never accessed by the CEC driver.

The timestamps in ir-keytable -t output showed that the Xbox DVD
IR dongle decodes scancodes every 64ms. The last scancode of a
longer button press is decodes 64ms after the last-but-one which
indicates the decoder doesn't use a timeout but decodes on the last
edge of the signal.

Calling VIDIOC_DQBUF can release the core serialization lock pointed to
by vb2_queue->lock if it has to wait for a new buffer to arrive.
However, if userspace dup()ped the video device filehandle, then it is
possible to read or call DQBUF from two filehandles at the same time.
It is also possible to call REQBUFS from one filehandle while the other
is waiting for a buffer. This will remove all the buffers and reallocate
new ones. Removing all the buffers isn't the problem here (that's already
handled correctly by DQBUF), but the reallocating part is: DQBUF isn't
aware that the buffers have changed.
This is fixed by setting a flag whenever the lock is released while waiting
for a buffer to arrive. And checking the flag where needed so we can return
-EBUSY.

Media Device Allocator API to allows multiple drivers share a media device.
This API solves a very common use-case for media devices where one physical
device (an USB stick) provides both audio and video. When such media device
exposes a standard USB Audio class, a proprietary Video class, two or more
independent drivers will share a single physical USB bridge. In such cases,
it is necessary to coordinate access to the shared resource.
Using this API, drivers can allocate a media device with the shared struct
device as the key. Once the media device is allocated by a driver, other
drivers can get a reference to it. The media device is released when all
the references are released.

Add two new API helpers, v4l2_fill_pixfmt and v4l2_fill_pixfmt_mp,
to be used by drivers to calculate plane sizes and bytes per lines.
Note that driver-specific padding and alignment are not
taken into account, and must be done by drivers using this API.

If requests are used when they shouldn't, or not used when they should,
then return EBADR (Invalid request descriptor) instead of EACCES.
The reason for this change is that EACCES has more to do with permissions
(not being the owner of the resource), but in this case the request file
descriptor is just wrong for the current mode of the device.
Update the documentation accordingly.

Stateless codecs require the use of the Request API as opposed of it
being optional.
So add a bit to indicate this and let vb2 check for this.
If an attempt is made to queue a buffer without an associated request,
then the EBADR error is returned to userspace.
Doing this check in the vb2 core simplifies drivers, since they
don't have to check for this, they can just set this flag.

The last user of this state has been converted, so we can now drop
this. Requeueing causes the queue to become unordered, which causes
problems with requests and (in the future) fences.
Since it is no longer needed, just get rid of this.

The module ownership refcounting was done in media_entity_get/put,
but that was very confusing and it did not work either in case an
application had a v4l-subdevX device open and the module was
unbound. When the v4l-subdevX device was closed the media_entity_put
was never called and the module refcount was left one too high, making
it impossible to unload it.
Since v4l2-subdev.c was the only place where media_entity_get/put was
called, just move the functionality to v4l2-subdev.c and drop those
confusing entity functions.
Store the module in subdev_fh so module_put no longer depends on
the media_entity struct.

If the subdevice created a device node, then the v4l2_subdev cannot
be freed until the last user of the device node closes it.
This means that we need a release() callback in v4l2_subdev_internal_ops
that is called from the video_device release function so the subdevice
driver can postpone freeing memory until the that callback is called.
If no video device node was created then the release callback can
be called immediately when the subdev is unregistered.

If a stream is stopped, or if a USERPTR/DMABUF buffer is queued
backed by a different user address or dmabuf fd, then the timestamp
should be skipped by vb2_find_timestamp since the memory it refers
to is no longer valid.
So keep track of a 'copied_timestamp' state: it is set when the
timestamp is copied from an output to a capture buffer, and is
cleared when it is no longer valid.

When queueing a buffer to a request the 'field' value is not validated.
That field is only validated when the _buf_prepare() is called,
which happens when the request is queued.
However, this validation should happen at QBUF time, since you want
to know about this as soon as possible. Also, the spec requires that
the 'field' value is validated at QBUF time.
This patch adds a new buf_out_validate callback to validate the
output buffer at buf_prepare time or when QBUF queues an unprepared

There really is no reason why vb2_find_timestamp can't just find
buffers in any state. Drop that part of the test.
This also means that vb->timestamp should only be set to 0 when
the driver doesn't copy timestamps.
This change allows for more efficient pipelining (i.e. you can use
a buffer for a reference frame even when it is queued).

Use the new v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_data helper function and use
timestamps to refer to reference frames instead of using
buffer indices.
Also remove the padding fields in the structs, that's a bad
idea. Just use the right types to keep everything aligned.

Use v4l2_timeval_to_ns instead of timeval_to_ns to ensure that
both kernelspace and userspace will use the same conversion
function.
Next add a new vb2_find_timestamp() function to find buffers
with a specific timestamp.
This function will only look at DEQUEUED and DONE buffers, i.e.
buffers that are already processed.

The V4L2_BUF_TYPE_META_OUTPUT mirrors the V4L2_BUF_TYPE_META_CAPTURE with
the exception that it is an OUTPUT type. The use case for this is to pass
buffers to the device that are not image data but metadata. The formats,
just as the metadata capture formats, are typically device specific and
highly structured.

The MPEG2 state controls for the cedrus stateless MPEG2 driver are
not yet stable. Move them out of the public headers into media/mpeg2-ctrls.h.
Eventually, once this has stabilized, they will be moved back to the
public headers.
Unfortunately I had to cast the control type to a u32 in two switch
statements to prevent a compiler warning about a control type define
not being part of the enum.

When vb2_buffer_done is called the buffer is unbound from the
request and put. The media_request_object_put also 'put's the
request reference. If the application has already closed the
request fd, then that means that the request reference at that
point goes to 0 and the whole request is released.

The vb2_buffer_done function can be called from interrupt context, so
anything that sleeps is not allowed.
The solution is to increment the request refcount when the buffer is
queued and decrement it when the buffer is dequeued. Releasing the
request is fine if that happens from VIDIOC_DQBUF.

I noticed that repeatedly running 'cec-ctl --playback' would occasionally
select 'Playback Device 2' instead of 'Playback Device 1', even though there
were no other Playback devices in the HDMI topology. This happened both with
'real' hardware and with the vivid CEC emulation, suggesting that this was an
issue in the core code that claims a logical address.
What 'cec-ctl --playback' does is to first clear all existing logical addresses,
and immediately after that configure the new desired device type.
The core code will poll the logical addresses trying to find a free address.
When found it will issue a few standard messages as per the CEC spec and return.
Those messages are queued up and will be transmitted asynchronously.
What happens is that if you run two 'cec-ctl --playback' commands in quick
succession, there is still a message of the first cec-ctl command being transmitted
when you reconfigure the adapter again in the second cec-ctl command.
When the logical addresses are cleared, then all information about outstanding
transmits inside the CEC core is also cleared, and the core is no longer aware
that there is still a transmit in flight.
When the hardware finishes the transmit it calls transmit_done and the CEC core
thinks it is actually in response of a POLL messages that is trying to find a
free logical address. The result of all this is that the core thinks that the
logical address for Playback Device 1 is in use, when it is really an earlier
transmit that ended.
The main transmit thread looks at adap->transmitting to check if a transmit
is in progress, but that is set to NULL when the adapter is unconfigured.
adap->transmitting represents the view of userspace, not that of the hardware.
So when unconfiguring the adapter the message is marked aborted from the point
of view of userspace, but seen from the PoV of the hardware it is still ongoing.
So introduce a new bool transmit_in_progress that represents the hardware state
and use that instead of adap->transmitting. Now the CEC core waits until the
hardware finishes the transmit before starting a new transmit.

The Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit is a USB dongle with an IR remote for the
Original Xbox.
Historically it has been supported by the out-of-tree lirc_xbox driver,
but this one has fallen out of favour and was just dropped from popular
Kodi (formerly XBMC) distributions.
This driver is heavily based on the ati_remote driver where all the
boilerplate was taken from - I was mostly just removing code.

Some old Samsung drivers use the legacy crop API incorrectly:
the crop and compose targets are swapped. Normally VIDIOC_G_CROP
will return the CROP rectangle of a CAPTURE stream and the COMPOSE
rectangle of an OUTPUT stream.
The Samsung drivers do the opposite. Note that these drivers predate
the selection API.
If this 'QUIRK' flag is set, then the v4l2-ioctl core will swap
the CROP and COMPOSE targets as well.
That way backwards compatibility is ensured and we can convert the
Samsung drivers to the selection API.

The calculation of the Signal Free Time in the framework was not
correct. If a message was received, then the next transmit should be
considered a New Initiator and use a shorter SFT value.
This was not done with the result that if both sides where continually
sending messages, they both could use the same SFT value and one side
could deny the other side access to the bus.
Note that this fix does not take the corner case into account where
a receive is in progress when you call adap_transmit.

Sometimes it may be necessary to grab a control while holding the control
handler's lock. Provide an unlocked variant of v4l2_ctrl_grab for the
purpose --- it's called __v4l2_ctrl_grab.

There is already a typedef for the parse endpoint function.
However, instead of using it, it is redefined at the C file
(and on one of the function headers).
Replace them by the function typedef, in order to cleanup
several related coding style warnings.

and the previous patchset added even more.
Address the trivial ones by first calling:

The semantics of v4l2_fwnode_endpoint_parse() and
v4l2_fwnode_endpoint_alloc_parse() have changed slightly: they now take
the bus type from the user as well as a default configuration for the bus
that shall reflect the DT binding defaults. Document this.

Initialise the V4L2 fwnode endpoints to zero in all drivers using
v4l2_fwnode_endpoint_parse(). This prepares for setting default endpoint
flags as well as the bus type. Setting bus type to zero will continue to
guess the bus among the guessable set (parallel, Bt.656 and CSI-2 D-PHY).

In case the device supports multiple video bus types on an endpoint, the
V4L2 fwnode framework attempts to detect the type based on the available
information. This wasn't working really well, and sometimes could lead to
the V4L2 fwnode endpoint struct as being mishandled between the bus types.
Default to Bt.656 if no properties suggesting a bus type are found.

Instead of allocating the V4L2 fwnode endpoint in
v4l2_fwnode_endpoint_alloc_parse, let the caller to do this. This allows
setting default parameters for the endpoint which is a very common need
for drivers.

All platform drivers have been converted to use
v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev(), in place of adding
asd's to the notifier subdevs array. So the subdevs
array can now be removed from struct v4l2_async_notifier,
and remove the backward compatibility support for that
array in v4l2-async.c.

for parsing a sub-device's fwnode port endpoints for connected remote
sub-devices, registering a sub-device notifier, and then registering
the sub-device itself.

The fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions in v4l2-fwnode.c
are modified to make use of v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev().
As a result the notifier->subdevs array is no longer allocated or
re-allocated, and by extension the max_subdevs value is also no
longer needed.
Callers of the fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions must now
first initialize the notifier with a call to v4l2_async_notifier_init().
This includes the function v4l2_async_register_subdev_sensor_common(),
and the intel-ipu3, omap3isp, and rcar-vin drivers.
Since the notifier->subdevs array is no longer allocated in the
fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions, the callers of
those functions must never reference that array, since it is now
NULL. Of the drivers that make use of the fwnode/ref parsing,
only the intel-ipu3 driver references the ->subdevs[] array,
(in the notifier completion callback), so that driver has been
modified to iterate through the notifier->asd_list instead.

v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev() adds an asd to the notifier. It checks
that no other equivalent asd's have already been added to this notifier's
asd list, or to other registered notifier's waiting or done lists, and
increments num_subdevs.
v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev() does not make use of the notifier subdevs
array, otherwise it would have to re-allocate the array every time the
function was called. In place of the subdevs array, the function adds
the newly allocated asd to a new master asd_list. The function will
return error with a WARN() if it is ever called with the subdevs array
allocated.
Drivers are now required to call a v4l2_async_notifier_init(), before the
first call to v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev(), in order to initialize
the asd_list.
In v4l2_async_notifier_has_async_subdev(), __v4l2_async_notifier_register(),
and v4l2_async_notifier_cleanup(), maintain backward compatibility with
the subdevs array, by alternatively operate on the subdevs array or a
non-empty notifier->asd_list.

This can be done with c99 initializers, which makes the code cleaner
and more transparent. It does require gcc 4.6, because of this bug
in earlier versions:

The event subscriptions are added to the subscribed event list while
holding a spinlock, but that lock is subsequently released while still
accessing the subscription object. This makes it possible to unsubscribe
the event --- and freeing the subscription object's memory --- while
the subscription object is simultaneously accessed.
Prevent this by adding a mutex to serialise the event subscription and
unsubscription. This also gives a guarantee to the callback ops that the
add op has returned before the del op is called.
This change also results in making the elems field less special:
subscriptions are only added to the event list once they are fully
initialised.

Stateless video decoding engines require both the MPEG-2 slices and
associated metadata from the video stream in order to decode frames.
This introduces definitions for a new pixel format, describing buffers
with MPEG-2 slice data, as well as control structure sfor passing the
frame metadata to drivers.
This is based on work from both Florent Revest and Hugues Fruchet.
