The sd argument of this macro can be a more complex expression. Since it
is used 5 times in the macro it can be evaluated that many times as well.
So assign it to a temp variable in the beginning and use that instead.
This also avoids any potential side-effects of evaluating sd.

metadata, such as its timestamp and its flags.
Therefore, the v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata name is more clear

When queueing a buffer to a request the 'field' value is not validated.
That field is only validated when the _buf_prepare() is called,
which happens when the request is queued.
However, this validation should happen at QBUF time, since you want
to know about this as soon as possible. Also, the spec requires that
the 'field' value is validated at QBUF time.
This patch adds a new buf_out_validate callback to validate the
output buffer at buf_prepare time or when QBUF queues an unprepared
buffer to a request. This callback is mandatory for output queues
that support requests.
This issue was found by v4l2-compliance since it failed to replace
V4L2_FIELD_ANY by a proper field value when testing the vivid video
output in combination with requests.

There really is no reason why vb2_find_timestamp can't just find
buffers in any state. Drop that part of the test.
This also means that vb->timestamp should only be set to 0 when
the driver doesn't copy timestamps.
This change allows for more efficient pipelining (i.e. you can use
a buffer for a reference frame even when it is queued).

Use the new v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_data helper function and use

Use v4l2_timeval_to_ns instead of timeval_to_ns to ensure that
both kernelspace and userspace will use the same conversion
function.
Next add a new vb2_find_timestamp() function to find buffers
with a specific timestamp.
This function will only look at DEQUEUED and DONE buffers, i.e.
buffers that are already processed.

The V4L2_BUF_TYPE_META_OUTPUT mirrors the V4L2_BUF_TYPE_META_CAPTURE with
the exception that it is an OUTPUT type. The use case for this is to pass
buffers to the device that are not image data but metadata. The formats,
just as the metadata capture formats, are typically device specific and
highly structured.

The MPEG2 state controls for the cedrus stateless MPEG2 driver are
not yet stable. Move them out of the public headers into media/mpeg2-ctrls.h.
Eventually, once this has stabilized, they will be moved back to the
public headers.
Unfortunately I had to cast the control type to a u32 in two switch
statements to prevent a compiler warning about a control type define
not being part of the enum.

When vb2_buffer_done is called the buffer is unbound from the
request and put. The media_request_object_put also 'put's the
request reference. If the application has already closed the
request fd, then that means that the request reference at that
point goes to 0 and the whole request is released.

The vb2_buffer_done function can be called from interrupt context, so
anything that sleeps is not allowed.
The solution is to increment the request refcount when the buffer is
queued and decrement it when the buffer is dequeued. Releasing the
request is fine if that happens from VIDIOC_DQBUF.

I noticed that repeatedly running 'cec-ctl --playback' would occasionally
select 'Playback Device 2' instead of 'Playback Device 1', even though there
were no other Playback devices in the HDMI topology. This happened both with
'real' hardware and with the vivid CEC emulation, suggesting that this was an
issue in the core code that claims a logical address.
What 'cec-ctl --playback' does is to first clear all existing logical addresses,
and immediately after that configure the new desired device type.
The core code will poll the logical addresses trying to find a free address.
When found it will issue a few standard messages as per the CEC spec and return.
Those messages are queued up and will be transmitted asynchronously.
What happens is that if you run two 'cec-ctl --playback' commands in quick
succession, there is still a message of the first cec-ctl command being transmitted
when you reconfigure the adapter again in the second cec-ctl command.
When the logical addresses are cleared, then all information about outstanding
transmits inside the CEC core is also cleared, and the core is no longer aware
that there is still a transmit in flight.
When the hardware finishes the transmit it calls transmit_done and the CEC core
thinks it is actually in response of a POLL messages that is trying to find a
free logical address. The result of all this is that the core thinks that the
logical address for Playback Device 1 is in use, when it is really an earlier
transmit that ended.
The main transmit thread looks at adap->transmitting to check if a transmit
is in progress, but that is set to NULL when the adapter is unconfigured.
adap->transmitting represents the view of userspace, not that of the hardware.
So when unconfiguring the adapter the message is marked aborted from the point
of view of userspace, but seen from the PoV of the hardware it is still ongoing.
So introduce a new bool transmit_in_progress that represents the hardware state
and use that instead of adap->transmitting. Now the CEC core waits until the
hardware finishes the transmit before starting a new transmit.

The Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit is a USB dongle with an IR remote for the
Original Xbox.
Historically it has been supported by the out-of-tree lirc_xbox driver,
but this one has fallen out of favour and was just dropped from popular
Kodi (formerly XBMC) distributions.
This driver is heavily based on the ati_remote driver where all the
boilerplate was taken from - I was mostly just removing code.

Some old Samsung drivers use the legacy crop API incorrectly:
the crop and compose targets are swapped. Normally VIDIOC_G_CROP
will return the CROP rectangle of a CAPTURE stream and the COMPOSE
rectangle of an OUTPUT stream.
The Samsung drivers do the opposite. Note that these drivers predate
the selection API.
If this 'QUIRK' flag is set, then the v4l2-ioctl core will swap
the CROP and COMPOSE targets as well.
That way backwards compatibility is ensured and we can convert the
Samsung drivers to the selection API.

The calculation of the Signal Free Time in the framework was not
correct. If a message was received, then the next transmit should be
considered a New Initiator and use a shorter SFT value.
This was not done with the result that if both sides where continually
sending messages, they both could use the same SFT value and one side
could deny the other side access to the bus.
Note that this fix does not take the corner case into account where
a receive is in progress when you call adap_transmit.

There is already a typedef for the parse endpoint function.
However, instead of using it, it is redefined at the C file
(and on one of the function headers).
Replace them by the function typedef, in order to cleanup

The semantics of v4l2_fwnode_endpoint_parse() and

the bus type from the user as well as a default configuration for the bus
that shall reflect the DT binding defaults. Document this.

Initialise the V4L2 fwnode endpoints to zero in all drivers using
v4l2_fwnode_endpoint_parse(). This prepares for setting default endpoint
flags as well as the bus type. Setting bus type to zero will continue to
guess the bus among the guessable set (parallel, Bt.656 and CSI-2 D-PHY).

In case the device supports multiple video bus types on an endpoint, the
V4L2 fwnode framework attempts to detect the type based on the available
information. This wasn't working really well, and sometimes could lead to
the V4L2 fwnode endpoint struct as being mishandled between the bus types.
Default to Bt.656 if no properties suggesting a bus type are found.

All platform drivers have been converted to use
v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev(), in place of adding
asd's to the notifier subdevs array. So the subdevs
array can now be removed from struct v4l2_async_notifier,
and remove the backward compatibility support for that
array in v4l2-async.c.

The fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions in v4l2-fwnode.c
are modified to make use of v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev().
As a result the notifier->subdevs array is no longer allocated or
re-allocated, and by extension the max_subdevs value is also no
longer needed.
Callers of the fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions must now
first initialize the notifier with a call to v4l2_async_notifier_init().
This includes the function v4l2_async_register_subdev_sensor_common(),
and the intel-ipu3, omap3isp, and rcar-vin drivers.
Since the notifier->subdevs array is no longer allocated in the
fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions, the callers of
those functions must never reference that array, since it is now
NULL. Of the drivers that make use of the fwnode/ref parsing,
only the intel-ipu3 driver references the ->subdevs[] array,
(in the notifier completion callback), so that driver has been
modified to iterate through the notifier->asd_list instead.

v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev() adds an asd to the notifier. It checks
that no other equivalent asd's have already been added to this notifier's
asd list, or to other registered notifier's waiting or done lists, and
increments num_subdevs.
v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev() does not make use of the notifier subdevs
array, otherwise it would have to re-allocate the array every time the
function was called. In place of the subdevs array, the function adds
the newly allocated asd to a new master asd_list. The function will
return error with a WARN() if it is ever called with the subdevs array
allocated.
Drivers are now required to call a v4l2_async_notifier_init(), before the
first call to v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev(), in order to initialize
the asd_list.
In v4l2_async_notifier_has_async_subdev(), __v4l2_async_notifier_register(),
and v4l2_async_notifier_cleanup(), maintain backward compatibility with
the subdevs array, by alternatively operate on the subdevs array or a
non-empty notifier->asd_list.

The event subscriptions are added to the subscribed event list while
holding a spinlock, but that lock is subsequently released while still
accessing the subscription object. This makes it possible to unsubscribe
the event --- and freeing the subscription object's memory --- while
the subscription object is simultaneously accessed.
Prevent this by adding a mutex to serialise the event subscription and
unsubscription. This also gives a guarantee to the callback ops that the
add op has returned before the del op is called.
This change also results in making the elems field less special:
subscriptions are only added to the event list once they are fully
initialised.

Stateless video decoding engines require both the MPEG-2 slices and
associated metadata from the video stream in order to decode frames.
This introduces definitions for a new pixel format, describing buffers
with MPEG-2 slice data, as well as control structure sfor passing the
frame metadata to drivers.
This is based on work from both Florent Revest and Hugues Fruchet.

The helper indicating whether buffers are associated with the request is
reworked and renamed to return the number of associated buffer objects.
This is useful for drivers that need to check how many buffers are in
the request to validate it.
Existing users of the helper don't need particular adaptation since the
meaning of zero/non-zero remains consistent.

Several CEC functions are actually specific for use with receivers,
i.e. they should be part of the V4L2 subsystem, not CEC.
These functions deal with validating and modifying EDIDs for (HDMI)
receivers, and they do not actually have anything to do with the CEC
subsystem and whether or not CEC is enabled. The problem was that if
the CEC_CORE config option was not set, then these functions would
become stubs, but that's not right: they should always be valid.
So replace the cec_ prefix by v4l2_ and move them to v4l2-dv-timings.c.
Update all drivers that call these accordingly.

This function is needed by both V4L2 and CEC, so move this to
cec.h as a static inline since there are no obvious shared
modules between the two subsystems.
This patch, together with the following ones, fixes a
dependency bug: if CEC_CORE is disabled, then building adv7604
(and other HDMI receivers) will fail because an essential
function is now stubbed out.

Consumer devices are provided with a wide different range of types
supported by the same driver, allowing different configutations.
In order to make easier to setup media controller links, "taint"
pads with the signal type it carries.
While here, get rid of DEMOD_PAD_VBI_OUT, as the signal it carries
is actually the same as the normal video output.
The difference happens at the video/VBI interface:
- for VBI, only the hidden lines are streamed;
- for video, the stream is usually cropped to hide the
vbi lines.

If requests are not supported by the driver, then return EACCES, not
EPERM.
If you attempt to mix queueing buffers directly and using requests,
then EBUSY is returned instead of EPERM: once a specific queueing mode
has been chosen the queue is 'busy' if you attempt the other mode
(i.e. direct queueing vs via a request).

Set the capabilities field of v4l2_requestbuffers and v4l2_create_buffers.
The various mapping modes were easy, but for signaling the request capability
a new 'supports_requests' bitfield was added to videobuf2-core.h (and set in
vim2m and vivid). Drivers have to set this bitfield for any queue where
requests are supported.

Instead of returning -ENOENT when a request_fd was not found (VIDIOC_QBUF
and VIDIOC_G/S/TRY_EXT_CTRLS), we now return -EINVAL. This is in line
with what we do when invalid dmabuf fds are passed to e.g. VIDIOC_QBUF.
Also document that EINVAL is returned for invalid m.fd values, we never
documented that.

For mem2mem devices we have to make sure that v4l2_m2m_try_schedule()
is called whenever a request is queued.
We do that by creating a vb2_m2m_request_queue() helper that should
be used instead of the 'normal' vb2_request_queue() helper. The m2m
helper function will call v4l2_m2m_try_schedule() as needed.
In addition we also avoid calling v4l2_m2m_try_schedule() when preparing
or queueing a buffer for a request since that is no longer needed.
Instead this helper function will do that when the request is actually
queued.

We need to initialize the request_fd field in struct vb2_v4l2_buffer
to -1 instead of the default of 0. So we need to add a new op that

The PREPARED state becomes a problem with the request API: a buffer
could be PREPARED but dequeued, or PREPARED and in state IN_REQUEST.
PREPARED is really not a state as such, but more a property of the
buffer. So make new 'prepared' and 'synced' bools instead to remember
whether the buffer is prepared and/or synced or not.
V4L2_BUF_FLAG_PREPARED is only set if the buffer is both synced and
prepared and in the DEQUEUED state.

The userspace-provided plane data needs to be stored in
vb2_v4l2_buffer. Currently this information is applied by
__fill_vb2_buffer() which is called by the core prepare_buf
and qbuf functions, but when using requests these functions
aren't called yet since the buffer won't be prepared until
the media request is actually queued.
In the meantime this information has to be stored somewhere
and vb2_v4l2_buffer is a good place for it.
The __fill_vb2_buffer callback now just copies the relevant
information from vb2_v4l2_buffer into the planes array.

If a driver needs to find/inspect the controls set in a request then
it can use these functions.

Integrate the request support. This adds the v4l2_ctrl_request_complete
and v4l2_ctrl_request_setup functions to complete a request and (as a
helper function) to apply a request to the hardware.
It takes care of queuing requests and correctly chaining control values
in the request queue.
Note that when a request is marked completed it will copy control values
to the internal request state. This can be optimized in the future since
this is sub-optimal when dealing with large compound and/or array controls.
For the initial 'stateless codec' use-case the current implementation is
sufficient.

Add a 'bool from_other_dev' argument: set to true if the two
handlers refer to different devices (e.g. it is true when
inheriting controls from a subdev into a main v4l2 bridge
driver).
This will be used later when implementing support for the
request API since we need to skip such controls.

Add media_request_object_find to find a request object inside a
request based on ops and priv values.
Objects of the same type (vb2 buffer, control handler) will have
the same ops value. And objects that refer to the same 'parent'
object (e.g. the v4l2_ctrl_handler that has the current driver
state) will have the same priv value.
The caller has to call media_request_object_put() for the returned
object since this function increments the refcount.

Add initial media request support:
1) Add MEDIA_IOC_REQUEST_ALLOC ioctl support to media-device.c
2) Add struct media_request to store request objects.
3) Add struct media_request_object to represent a request object.
4) Add MEDIA_REQUEST_IOC_QUEUE/REINIT ioctl support.
Basic lifecycle: the application allocates a request, adds
objects to it, queues the request, polls until it is completed
and can then read the final values of the objects at the time
of completion. When it closes the file descriptor the request
memory will be freed (actually, when the last user of that request
releases the request).
Drivers will bind an object to a request (the 'adds objects to it'
phase), when MEDIA_REQUEST_IOC_QUEUE is called the request is
validated (req_validate op), then queued (the req_queue op).
When done with an object it can either be unbound from the request
(e.g. when the driver has finished with a vb2 buffer) or marked as
completed (e.g. for controls associated with a buffer). When all
objects in the request are completed (or unbound), then the request
fd will signal an exception (poll).

A new helper function was introduced to facilitate the calculation
of time per frame value whenever we have access to the full
v4l2_dv_timings structure.
This should be used only for receivers and only when there is
enough accuracy in the measured pixel clock value as well as in
the horizontal/vertical values.

Calculate the top and bottom fields for the interlaced frames and
utilise the extended display list command feature to implement the
auto-field operations. This allows the DU to update the VSP2 registers
dynamically based upon the currently processing field.

Right now, satellite frontend drivers specify frequencies in kHz,
while terrestrial/cable ones specify in Hz. That's confusing
for developers.
However, the main problem is that universal frontends capable
of handling both satellite and non-satelite delivery systems
are appearing. We end by needing to hack the drivers in
order to support such hybrid frontends.
So, convert everything to specify frontend frequencies in Hz.

Implementing job_abort() does not make sense on some drivers.
This is not a problem, as the abort is not required to
wait for the job to finish. Quite the opposite, drivers
are encouraged not to wait.
Demote v4l2_m2m_ops.job_abort from required to optional, and
clean all drivers with dummy implementations.

In non device-tree world, we can need to get the notifier by the driver
name directly and eventually defer probe if not yet created.
This patch adds a variant of the get function by using the device name
instead and will not create a notifier if not yet created.
But the i915 driver exposes at least 2 HDMI connectors, this patch also
adds the possibility to add a connector name tied to the notifier device
to form a tuple and associate different CEC controllers for each HDMI
connectors.

A memory-to-memory pipeline device consists in three
entities: two DMA engine and one video processing entities.
The DMA engine entities are linked to a V4L interface.
This commit add a new v4l2_m2m_{un}register_media_controller
API to register this topology.

The ioctl serialization mutex (vdev->lock or q->lock for vb2 queues)
was taken at the highest level in v4l2-dev.c. This prevents more
fine-grained locking since at that level we cannot examine the ioctl
arguments, we can only do that after video_usercopy is called.
So push the locking down to __video_do_ioctl() and subdev_do_ioctl_lock().
This also allows us to make a few functions in v4l2-ioctl.c static and
video_usercopy() is no longer exported.
The locking scheme is not changed by this patch, just pushed down.

Any spaces events received after a reset or startup should be discarded,
so ensure the rc device is in idle mode.
This also makes it much easier to detect incorrect raw events, as we will
do in a following commit.

The mdev field is only present if CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER is set.
But since we will need to pass the media_device to vb2 and the
control framework it is very convenient to just make this field
available all the time. If CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER is not set,
then it will just be NULL.

even for staging standards: it has several layers of abstraction on
it, and it supports two different hardware. Selecting between them
require to add a define (there isn't even a Kconfig option for such
purpose). Just on this smatch cleanup, I could easily get rid of 8
"do-nothing" files. So, I'm seriously considering its removal from
upstream, if I don't see any real work on addressing the problems

An older version of the driver patches were merged accidentally which
resulted in missing the array_size parameter that tells the length of the
array that contains the different supported sizes.
Bring it back to v4l2_find_nearest size and make the corresponding change
for the drivers using it as well.

It turns out that the struct cec_fh event buffer size of 64 events
(64 for CEC_EVENT_PIN_CEC_LOW and 64 for _HIGH) is too small. It's
about 160 ms worth of events and if the Raspberry Pi is busy, then it
might take too long for the application to be scheduled so that it can
drain the pending events. Increase these buffers to 800 events which
is at least 2 seconds worth of events.
There is also a FIFO in between the interrupt and the cec-pin thread.
The thread passes the events on to the CEC core. It is important that
should this FIFO fill up the cec core will be informed that events
have been lost so this can be communicated to the user by setting
CEC_EVENT_FL_DROPPED_EVENTS.
It is very hard to debug CEC problems if events were lost without
informing the user of that fact.
If events were dropped due to the FIFO filling up, then the debugfs
status file will let you know how many events were dropped.

Add two new ops (error_inj_show and error_inj_parse_line) to support
error injection functionality for CEC adapters. If both are present,
then the core will add a new error-inj debugfs file that can be used
to see the current error injection commands and to set error injection
commands.

The v4l2_subdev core s_power op was used for two different things: power on/off
sensors or video decoders/encoders and to put a tuner in standby (and only the
tuner!). There is no 'tuner wakeup' op, that's done automatically when the tuner
is accessed.
The danger with calling (s_power, 0) to put a tuner into standby is that it is
usually broadcast for all subdevs. So a video receiver subdev that supports
s_power will also be powered off, and since there is no corresponding (s_power, 1)
they will never be powered on again.
In addition, this is specifically meant for tuners only since they draw the most
current.
This patch adds a new tuner op called 'standby' and replaces all calls to
(core, s_power, 0) by (tuner, standby). This prevents confusion between the two
uses of s_power. Note that there is no overlap: bridge drivers either just want
to put the tuner into standby, or they deal with powering on/off sensors. Never
both.
This also makes it easier to replace s_power for the remaining bridge drivers
with some PM code later.
Whether we want something cleaner for tuners in the future is a separate topic.
There is a lot of legacy code surrounding tuners, and I am very hesitant about
making changes there.

Add a function (as well as a helper macro) to obtain the best size in a
list of device specific sizes. This helps writing drivers as well as
aligns interface behaviour across drivers.
The struct in which this information is contained in is typically specific
to the driver, therefore the existing function v4l2_find_nearest_format()
does not address the need.

Not sure why, but, on ia64, with Linaro's gcc 7.3 compiler,

The dvb_attach()/dvb_detach() methods are ugly hacks designed
to keep using the I2C low-level API. The proper way is to
do I2C bus bindings instead.
Several modules were already converted to use it. Yet,
it is painful to use it, as lots of code need to be
duplicated.
Make it easier by providing two new helper functions:
- dvb_module_probe()
- dvb_module_release()

A recent change to the media_entity_to_video_device() macro breaks some
use-cases for the macro due to a symbol collision. Before the change
this worked:
vdev = media_entity_to_video_device(link->sink->entity);
While after the change it results in a compiler error "error: 'struct
video_device' has no member named 'link'; did you mean 'lock'?". While
the following still works after the change.
struct media_entity *entity = link->sink->entity;
vdev = media_entity_to_video_device(entity);
Fix the collision by renaming the macro argument to '__entity'.

Some conditions required for DVB mmap support to work are reversed.
Also, the logic is not too clear.
So, improve the logic, making it easier to be handled.
PS.: I'm pretty sure that I fixed it while testing, but, somehow,
the change got lost.

CONFIG_DVB_MMAP was misspelled either as CONFIG_DVB_MMSP
or DVB_MMAP, so it had no effect at all. This fixes that,
to make it possible to build it again.
