Andy Shevchenko 7b1718666f ata: sata_dwc_460ex: No need to call phy_exit() befre phy_init()
[ Upstream commit 3ad4a31620355358316fa08fcfab37b9d6c33347 ]

Last change to device managed APIs cleaned up error path to simple phy_exit()
call, which in some cases has been executed with NULL parameter. This per se
is not a problem, but rather logical misconception: no need to free resource
when it's for sure has not been allocated yet. Fix the driver accordingly.

Hans de Goede 8ec08f1431 libata: add ATA_HORKAGE_NO_NCQ_TRIM for Samsung 860 and 870 SSDs
commit 8a6430ab9c9c87cb64c512e505e8690bbaee190b upstream.

Commit ca6bfcb2f6 ("libata: Enable queued TRIM for Samsung SSD 860")
limited the existing ATA_HORKAGE_NO_NCQ_TRIM quirk from "Samsung SSD 8*",
covering all Samsung 800 series SSDs, to only apply to "Samsung SSD 840*"
and "Samsung SSD 850*" series based on information from Samsung.

But there is a large number of users which is still reporting issues
with the Samsung 860 and 870 SSDs combined with Intel, ASmedia or
Marvell SATA controllers and all reporters also report these problems
going away when disabling queued trims.

Note that with AMD SATA controllers users are reporting even worse
issues and only completely disabling NCQ helps there, this will be
addressed in a separate patch.

Fixes: ca6bfcb2f6 ("libata: Enable queued TRIM for Samsung SSD 860")

[ Upstream commit 355a8031dc174450ccad2a61c513ad7222d87a97 ]

The loop on entry of ata_host_start() may not initialize host->ops to a
non NULL value. The test on the host_stop field of host->ops must then
be preceded by a check that host->ops is not NULL.

Christoph Hellwig e30a88f1f5 libata: fix ata_pio_sector for CONFIG_HIGHMEM
[ Upstream commit ecef6a9effe49e8e2635c839020b9833b71e934c ]

Data transfers are not required to be block aligned in memory, so they
span two pages. Fix this by splitting the call to >sff_data_xfer into
two for that case.

This has been broken since the initial libata import before the damn
of git, but was uncovered by the legacy ide driver removal.

Timo Sigurdsson c90a5b1c37 ata: ahci_sunxi: Disable DIPM
commit f6bca4d91b2ea052e917cca3f9d866b5cc1d500a upstream.

DIPM is unsupported or broken on sunxi. Trying to enable the power
management policy med_power_with_dipm on an Allwinner A20 SoC based board
leads to immediate I/O errors and the attached SATA disk disappears from
the /dev filesystem. A reset (power cycle) is required to make the SATA
controller or disk work again. The A10 and A20 SoC data sheets and manuals
don't mention DIPM at all [1], so it's fair to assume that it's simply not
supported. But even if it was, it should be considered broken and best be
disabled in the ahci_sunxi driver.

[ Upstream commit 5c8121262484d99bffb598f39a0df445cecd8efb ]

The driver overrides the error codes returned by platform_get_irq() to
-ENXIO, so if it returns -EPROBE_DEFER, the driver would fail the probe
permanently instead of the deferred probing. Propagate the error code
upstream, as it should have been done from the start...

Sergey Shtylyov 550cf816bb pata_octeon_cf: avoid WARN_ON() in ata_host_activate()
[ Upstream commit bfc1f378c8953e68ccdbfe0a8c20748427488b80 ]

Iff platform_get_irq() fails (or returns IRQ0) and thus the polling mode
has to be used, ata_host_activate() hits the WARN_ON() due to 'irq_handler'
parameter being non-NULL if the polling mode is selected. Let's only set
the pointer to the driver's IRQ handler if platform_get_irq() returns a
valid IRQ # -- this should avoid the unnecessary WARN_ON()...

Sergey Shtylyov bafcaa0165 sata_mv: add IRQ checks
[ Upstream commit e6471a65fdd5efbb8dd2732dd0f063f960685ceb ]

The function mv_platform_probe() neglects to check the results of the
calls to platform_get_irq() and irq_of_parse_and_map() and blithely
passes them to ata_host_activate() -- while the latter only checks
for IRQ0 (treating it as a polling mode indicattion) and passes the
negative values to devm_request_irq() causing it to fail as it takes
unsigned values for the IRQ #...

Add to mv_platform_probe() the proper IRQ checks to pass the positive IRQ
#s to ata_host_activate(), propagate upstream the negative error codes,
and override the IRQ0 with -EINVAL (as we don't want the polling mode).

and it cause disks connected to these ports to be identified as removable

[ Upstream commit 8e4c309f9f33b76c09daa02b796ef87918eee494 ]

ata_qc_complete_multiple() has to be called with the tags physically
active, that is the hw tag is at bit 0. ap->qc_active has the same tag
at bit ATA_TAG_INTERNAL instead, so call ata_qc_get_active() to fix that
up. This is done in the vein of 8385d756e114 ("libata: Fix retrieving of

Geert Uytterhoeven 8f640cd8ee ata: sata_rcar: Fix DMA boundary mask
commit df9c590986fdb6db9d5636d6cd93bc919c01b451 upstream.

Before commit 9495b7e92f716ab2 ("driver core: platform: Initialize
dma_parms for platform devices"), the R-Car SATA device didn't have DMA
parameters. Hence the DMA boundary mask supplied by its driver was
silently ignored, as __scsi_init_queue() doesn't check the return value
of dma_set_seg_boundary(), and the default value of 0xffffffff was used.

Now the device has gained DMA parameters, the driver-supplied value is
used, and the following warning is printed on Salvator-XS:

    DMA-API: sata_rcar ee300000.sata: mapping sg segment across boundary [start=0x00000000ffffe000] [end=0x00000000ffffefff] [boundary=0x000000001ffffffe]
    WARNING: CPU: 5 PID: 38 at kernel/dma/debug.c:1233 debug_dma_map_sg+0x298/0x300

(the range of start/end values depend on whether IOMMU support is
 enabled or not)

The issue here is that SATA_RCAR_DMA_BOUNDARY doesn't have bit 0 set, so
any typical end value, which is odd, will trigger the check.

Fix this by increasing the DMA boundary value by 1.

This also fixes the following WRITE DMA EXT timeout issue:

    # dd if=/dev/urandom of=/mnt/de1/file1-1024M bs=1M count=1024
    ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen

    ata1.00: status: { DRDY }

as seen by Shimoda-san since commit 429120f3df2dba2b ("block: fix
splitting segments on boundary masks").

Pali Rohár 4e1a23779b ata: ahci: mvebu: Make SATA PHY optional for Armada 3720
commit 45aefe3d2251e4e229d7662052739f96ad1d08d9 upstream.

Older ATF does not provide SMC call for SATA phy power on functionality and
therefore initialization of ahci_mvebu is failing when older version of ATF
is using. In this case phy_power_on() function returns -EOPNOTSUPP.

This patch adds a new hflag AHCI_HFLAG_IGN_NOTSUPP_POWER_ON which cause
that ahci_platform_enable_phys() would ignore -EOPNOTSUPP errors from
phy_power_on() call.

It fixes initialization of ahci_mvebu on Espressobin boards where is older
Marvell's Arm Trusted Firmware without SMC call for SATA phy power.

This is regression introduced in commit 8e18c8e58d ("arm64: dts: marvell:
armada-3720-espressobin: declare SATA PHY property") where SATA phy was
defined and therefore ahci_platform_enable_phys() on Espressobin started
failing.

Jiri Slaby 9fb8e10b05 ata: sata_mv, avoid trigerrable BUG_ON
commit e9f691d899188679746eeb96e6cb520459eda9b4 upstream.

There are several reports that the BUG_ON on unsupported command in
mv_qc_prep can be triggered under some circumstances:
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1110252
https://serverfault.com/questions/888897/raid-problems-after-power-outage
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1652185
https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=14998

Let sata_mv handle the failure gracefully: warn about that incl. the
failed command number and return an AC_ERR_INVALID error. We can do that
now thanks to the previous patch.

Remove also the long-standing FIXME.

[v2] use %.2x as commands are defined as hexa.

commit 95364f36701e62dd50eee91e1303187fd1a9f567 upstream.

In case a driver wants to return an error from qc_prep, return enum
ata_completion_errors. sata_mv is one of those drivers -- see the next
patch. Other drivers return the newly defined AC_ERR_OK.

Tejun Heo f7880745e9 libata: implement ATA_HORKAGE_MAX_TRIM_128M and apply to Sandisks
commit 3b5455636fe26ea21b4189d135a424a6da016418 upstream.

All three generations of Sandisk SSDs lock up hard intermittently.
Experiments showed that disabling NCQ lowered the failure rate significantly
and the kernel has been disabling NCQ for some models of SD7's and 8's,
which is obviously undesirable.

Karthik worked with Sandisk to root cause the hard lockups to trim commands
larger than 128M. This patch implements ATA_HORKAGE_MAX_TRIM_128M which
limits max trim size to 128M and applies it to all three generations of
Sandisk SSDs.

This also looks completely buggy on highmem systems and really needs to use a

To address above bugs, Paolo Bonzini advise to simpler to just make a char array

Navid Emamdoost 4dfc238a24 sata_rcar: handle pm_runtime_get_sync failure cases
[ Upstream commit eea1238867205b9e48a67c1a63219529a73c46fd ]

Calling pm_runtime_get_sync increments the counter even in case of
failure, causing incorrect ref count. Call pm_runtime_put if

Kai-Heng Feng ef4f3b65d5 libata: Use per port sync for detach
[ Upstream commit b5292111de9bb70cba3489075970889765302136 ]

Commit 130f4caf145c ("libata: Ensure ata_port probe has completed before
detach") may cause system freeze during suspend.

Using async_synchronize_full() in PM callbacks is wrong, since async
callbacks that are already scheduled may wait for not-yet-scheduled
callbacks, causes a circular dependency.

Instead of using big hammer like async_synchronize_full(), use async
cookie to make sure port probe are synced, without affecting other
scheduled PM callbacks.

There is also refcount issue, as well:
WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 1 at lib/refcount.c:28 refcount_warn_saturate+0xf8/0x170

The issue is that we make an erroneous extra call to scsi_host_put()
for that host:

So in ahci_init_one()->ata_host_alloc_pinfo()->ata_host_alloc(), we setup
a device release method - ata_devres_release() - which intends to release
the SCSI hosts:

static void ata_devres_release(struct device *gendev, void *res)
{
	...
	for (i = 0; i < host->n_ports; i++) {
		struct ata_port *ap = host->ports[i];

		if (!ap)
			continue;

		if (ap->scsi_host)
			scsi_host_put(ap->scsi_host);

	}
	...
}

However in the ata_scsi_add_hosts() error path, we also call
scsi_host_put() for the SCSI hosts.

Fix by removing the the scsi_host_put() calls in ata_scsi_add_hosts() and
leave this to ata_devres_release().

Prabhakar Kushwaha 9724b3f28d ata: ahci: Add shutdown to freeze hardware resources of ahci
commit 10a663a1b15134a5a714aa515e11425a44d4fdf7 upstream.

device_shutdown() called from reboot or power_shutdown expect
all devices to be shutdown. Same is true for even ahci pci driver.
As no ahci shutdown function is implemented, the ata subsystem
always remains alive with DMA & interrupt support. File system
related calls should not be honored after device_shutdown().

So defining ahci pci driver shutdown to freeze hardware (mask
interrupt, stop DMA engine and free DMA resources).

Sascha Hauer c9738c3a4e libata: Fix retrieving of active qcs
commit 8385d756e114f2df8568e508902d5f9850817ffb upstream.

ata_qc_complete_multiple() is called with a mask of the still active
tags.

mv_sata doesn't have this information directly and instead calculates
the still active tags from the started tags (ap->qc_active) and the
finished tags as (ap->qc_active ^ done_mask)

Since 28361c4036 the hw_tag and tag are no longer the same and the
equation is no longer valid. In ata_exec_internal_sg() ap->qc_active is
initialized as 1ULL << ATA_TAG_INTERNAL, but in hardware tag 0 is
started and this will be in done_mask on completion. ap->qc_active ^
done_mask becomes 0x100000000 ^ 0x1 = 0x100000001 and thus tag 0 used as
the internal tag will never be reported as completed.

This is fixed by introducing ata_qc_get_active() which returns the
active hardware tags and calling it where appropriate.

This is tested on mv_sata, but sata_fsl and sata_nv suffer from the same
problem. There is another case in sata_nv that most likely needs fixing
as well, but this looks a little different, so I wasn't confident enough
to change that.

Florian Fainelli fc6e6f322e ata: ahci_brcm: BCM7425 AHCI requires AHCI_HFLAG_DELAY_ENGINE
commit 1a3d78cb6e20779a19388315bd8efefbd8d4a656 upstream.

Set AHCI_HFLAG_DELAY_ENGINE for the BCM7425 AHCI controller thus making
it conforming to the 'strict' AHCI implementation which this controller
is based on.

This solves long link establishment with specific hard drives (e.g.:
Seagate ST1000VM002-9ZL1 SC12) that would otherwise have to complete the
error recovery handling before finally establishing a succesful SATA
link at the desired speed.

We re-order the hpriv->flags assignment to also remove the NONCQ quirk
since we can set the flag directly.

Florian Fainelli d9295852f8 ata: ahci_brcm: Fix AHCI resources management
commit c0cdf2ac4b5bf3e5ef2451ea29fb4104278cdabc upstream.

The AHCI resources management within ahci_brcm.c is a little
convoluted, largely because it historically had a dedicated clock that
was managed within this file in the downstream tree. Once brough
upstream though, the clock was left to be managed by libahci_platform.c
which is entirely appropriate.

This patch series ensures that the AHCI resources are fetched and
enabled before any register access is done, thus avoiding bus errors on
platforms which clock gate the controller by default.

As a result we need to re-arrange the suspend() and resume() functions
in order to avoid accessing registers after the clocks have been turned
off respectively before the clocks have been turned on. Finally, we can
refactor brcm_ahci_get_portmask() in order to fetch the number of ports
from hpriv->mmio which is now accessible without jumping through hoops
like we used to do.

The commit pointed in the Fixes tag is both old and new enough not to
require major headaches for backporting of this patch.

With KASAN also enabled, we may also get many use-after-free reports.

The issue is that when CONFIG_DEBUG_TEST_DRIVER_REMOVE is set, we may
attempt to detach the ata_port before it has been probed.

This is because the ata_ports are async probed, meaning that there is no
guarantee that the ata_port has probed prior to detach. When the ata_port
does probe in this scenario, we get all sorts of issues as the detach may
have already happened.

Fix by ensuring synchronisation with async_synchronize_full(). We could
alternatively use the cookie returned from the ata_port probe
async_schedule() call, but that means managing the cookie, so more
complicated.

Richard Zhu b99656aef5 LF-58: sata: imx8: fix the calibration failure of phy
The calibration of the SATA PHYX1 is derived from the PHYX2.
Add the release of the PHYX2 APB reset, and turn on the HW gated
pipe_pclks of PHYX2 to make sure that the calibration of SATA PHYX1
can be finished successfully.
Adjust the APB reset of SATA, it should be released firstly.
The EPCS configrations should be placed before the EPCS reset.
